Really hesitant on posting this. I don't want to put the cart before the horse. I officially do not yet have a lease. Been waiting a week and half for the contract to be sent to me. I last talked on Sunday and hope to have it at some point this week. Another story for another thread...
When I did my google earth scouting, I saw 2 places that look like they were food plots. One is 1/2 acre, the other is 1/3 acre. When I went and saw the place, it looked more like native grass.
If I were to create a couple of food plots, how do I go about doing this? I believe the process is as follows below, but y'all I can't keep anything alive to save my life. No green thumb here. Plastic flowers even lose their pedals.
Step 1: round up to kill off the grass currently there. Not sure best way to apply, I want to be inexpensive, so I'm not exactly sure how to go about spraying this much land.
Step 2: mow it real short
Step 3: Till it up... Thinking I could take the mower which has a place for me to attach stuff to the back (not a hitch, just a hole in the frame) and make something like what we used in high school to tear up the dirt. Nail drag I think is what we called it. Anyway, tear it up with that.
Step 4: plant the seeds before it rains.
Step 5: wait for stuff to pop up I guess. Maybe throw down fertilizer after it takes off around early October.
How much time needs to pass between roundup and laying the seeds down?
Perennial or annual?
Thanks for any advice y'all...Much appreciated.
