Yet another age this deer thread...

Not too concerned about score as he’s bigger than anything I’ve killed and I’ll only shoot him with a bow if I get the chance. He will get a rifle pass from me...but if you want to throw something out there I’m all ears. I’m more concerned about him being mature for my low fence 600 acre place.

If you think he has to ability to add length and mass, I would pass regardless of his current age.

He’s mature...I’d sure like to know how folks can accurately age 5+ year old deer this time of year with no prior history.

He is mature, but don't worry about shooting him. He will disappear/go nocturnal come hunting season.

Sagging belly, deep brisket, large shoulders and just general body size is what I use to age deer this time of year. He is mature and if I was hunting on 600 acres in central Texas I would take that deer if given the chance. Actually I would probably take him regardless of land size unless I had my eye on something bigger.

5 plus is my guess. Pot belly like me.

Probably so. The deer I had targeted last year disappeared mid OCT. I figure if I’m gonna have a shot at him it will be in the first couple weekends of bow season.
