    Flying with hand gun

Leaving to Wyoming in a few weeks was wondering if I can lock my pistol inside my bow case for transport

Don’t think so. Needs to be in its own locked case

Gotta be in it's own locked case inside your suitcase. Bullets in their original box. Must declare and wait for inspection and to have it tagged.

The first two responses are incorrect. Although you can lock the handgun inside a small hard case then put It inside your suitcase, you are not required to do It that way. It has to be in a locked hard sided container secured with non tsa accessible locks. There is no rule that a bow, or anything else can not be in the same hard sided locked container. A bow case would qualify assuming it is both hard sided and lockable. Some bowcases have flimsy locks that are easily defeated, this may not fly. Best if your case has a loop for a padlock.

        From TSA webpage:

"You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted. Be aware that the container the firearm was in when purchased may not adequately secure the firearm when it is transported in checked baggage."

Learn how to properly prepare, pack and declare firearms and ammunition in checked baggage when flying. Review TSA rules, airline policies, and legal requirements.

if you are worried have a gun shop mail it to a gun shop up there. worse case scenario is it will cost you $20 each way plus shipping. I have carried pistols to Alaska many times and had them locked in a case and the ammo locked in a case and both in other suitcases. and never had an issue.

Just call the airline. I’ve flown with firearms several times but never was in a situation to put the gun case inside another piece of luggage or bow case. Not sure I’m following TX Jim’s TSA quote, but I would call the airline directly.

It's pretty simple. Any gun, handgun or long gun, just has to be inside a hard sided case of some type with a lock that only you can open. It can be a gun case, a bow case, a suitcase, or whatever case as long as it's hard sided and locked. To say you have to put a handgun in a small locked case then inside your suitcase is not correct. To say it can't be in your bow case with your bow is also incorrect.

I have flown multiple times with a handgun, bow and box of cartridges inside my bow case when treaveling to hunti n bear country. Gun has to unloaded and cartridges in their original retail packaging.
