    Sheep creep feed is better IMO and 16% protein, but depends as it can be more expensive than deer rations

    From a old thread

    “” sheep have alot lower copper requirement than deer. Feeding sheep feed to deer can potentially lead to a copper deficiency. Remember the protein % is not the only thing that comes into play for deer. The micro and macro minerals found in true deer feed aren't found in sheep/cattle feed. These minerals are very important and are used for everything from anter growth to immune, respiratory, and circulatory system maintenance.””

      Cattle Cubes..... ?

      Been using them a few weeks now and surprised at how well the deer eat them.

      I also just moved to a place with an almost tame herd of backyard deer so I’ve been able to “experiment” with a few things at the house to see what the deer do. They pick up a whole cube and chew it holding their mouth open wide. Makes them look funny, but tells you exactly what they are doing and I can see them doing the same thing on game camera at the lease. High in protein and the nutritional tag is very similar to deer feed in vitamin numbers. A tad more salt. I think it’s an excellent source of protein and vitamins and for $8.25/bag, you can’t beat it for something extra. Still a firm believe in protein pellets from the feeders, but always like anything additional, especially with protein. Not sure what the TDN% is on cubes.

        You can buy cattle cubes in the 1/2 inch size and sheep cubes in the 1/4 inch size. Lots easier for deer to chew.

          Not sure about those sizes, but the coons at my place don’t seem to mess with the big ones.

          A deer can eat a whole big cube in a couple minutes and then grabs another.

              It can be pretty entertaining watching the deer chew on the big range cubes... Got some old pics somewhere of does eating those cubes and they look like they have a big ol stogie stickin' out the side of their mouths...

                Creep and deer ration are both 3/16th
                Cattle = 3/8th

                  I meant I’m not sure if the coons mess with the smaller ones, but they seem to be leaving the bigger ones alone.

                    In the winter when I feed cubes the deer usually wait until the cows are done and then come in and clean up anything that's left over.

                      My cows will trample you for some cubes by Moore Feeds. Those cubes have an aroma like no other. I have never thought of feeding them to deer. Might have to try that this year.

                          Easy to tell when they are eating one as well.

                            I use cattle cubes at the gate to keep the cows away from my feeders.
