Where to fish/Camp a few days in CO??

Ok so I am filling feeders in Childress Aug 29-30 and it doesnt make much sense to drive back to DFW when I need to be in Steamboat on September 2.. So I am gonna drive up and camp/fish the 30th and the 31st.. Then I have a hotel in Black Hawk on the 1st to shower and get a good night sleep before hiking in to hunt either the 2nd or 3rd...

Anyone have any ideas where I could stop and camp and fish on the way up?? Mainly want to fly fish.. But I am good with Lake, river or stream..

I'm leaving out the 26th. Gonna make it to South Fork the first day of driving and then fish from there up to Lake City.

Yep.... I know exactly where you need to go.

If you are going to Steamboat I know a little lake where you can catch all the trout you want and I know a campground just up the road. There is actually one campground on your left just up the road toward Steamboat and one on your right a little further toward steamboat. This little lake is not 50 yards off highway 40 but it does not get much pressure and is full of trout.

Silver or gold 1/8 oz Kastmaster spoons, White 1/8 oz Panther Martin. Its hard to guarantee any hunting or fishing spot, but I will guarantee this one.

I have elk hunted Bear Mountain Ranch (private) and North and South Ryder Peak (public) which is just south of Muddy Pass and Rabbit Ears.

If you have not settled on an elk hunting area give me a shout. I have some GPS coordinates that will help.

Taylor Park, Co. Trophy trout below the dam. Small water above the lake. Miles and miles you can explore. Find a nice looking spot up river of the lake and set up camp.

If you are going towards Platoro, You might try Trujillo Meadows Reservoir, Colorado. A guy i know has been doing good there.

Heck ya, fish the Conejos and Elk Creek. Is the lake itself any good?

The lake is awesome. Especially the west side where it narrows down to the river. Kokanee and rainbows mainly. Then there are some browns in the river that runs through town.

Both. Montgomery Reservoir just outside Alma. Camp and fish the reservoir, and the headwaters of the Platte River is just below it. Pack a float tube, would be awesome on that lake
