I saw some pics of a co op with huge silos bent to the ground like tin cans. A lot of money laying there.

We just got power back this morning. 5 days no power and running a chainsaw everyday for hours on end. I am now officially old (48). I can no longer keep up with the young kids. I have live near Grinnell along I-80 for 30 years and I have never seen anything like this. The damage impressive. I saw concrete electric posts snapped in two. 50,000 bushel grain bins tossed around and smashed like an aluminum can. We fared pretty well compared to most. I lost three big pine trees around the house and countless oaks and hickories in the timber, but everyone is safe.

Derecho is straight, Derecha is (right, as in right turn) silly to have two words so similar screamed at you when you are lost on a road trip and are approaching an intersection at a high rate of speed thats my life! Sorry for the loss of crops and roofs

I can see how that could be dangerous.[emoji38] Derecho or deracha????......and then the sound of squealing tires.

We are about 70 miles south of you in Davis county. The southern edge of the storm passed just north of us. The downdraft winds off the storm were powerful. We are thankful we were spared any damage. I am sure 100 mph winds would not have been good for our pole barn house/shop. There were some big trees around here blown down, some signs blown over, but minimal damage. I have not been down in our timber yet. Hopefully the winds that we got only took down the widow makers.

Glad to hear you're OK. Its amazing how 100 mph winds can destroy one building and not touch others. All of my out buildings are fine, one is movable on skids and it didn't move an inch.

Terrifying picture of the leading edge of the "Derecho" storm as it approached Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 10th.

That kind of storm deserves it's own name...

Impressive display of Mother Nature's strength.
