80 miles on horseback with a fly rod in Montana (pic heavy).

We got back a week ago and half ago but we had an amazing time.

My wife and I went with another ER doc couple, their nanny and oldest daughter. We also had a retired professor from Tarleton join us. We went with an outfitter and his team 30 miles deep in to the Bob Marshall Wilderness for 10 days of fly fishing and sleeping under the stars.

My wife and I shipped our saddles all the way from Texas and that was worth every dollar.

Day one we rode 15 miles in to the back country and got on Gordon Creek. We camped under the stars in a beautiful creek side meadow. We packed up the next morning and rode another 15miles to our permanent camp where we would live and fish for the next week. We fly fished the Gordon Creek and South Fork of the Flathead. We never slept in a tent. We put our cots and sleeping bags on a gravel bar and slept under the stars the entire time.

We made a few trips on horseback to fly fish different waters. The fishing was amazing. I can’t even accurately count how many fish I caught on this trip on the fly but it was somewhere near 15 fish per day. All were catch and release except for two lunches worth of fish. These were all cutthroat trout.

Below are several pics of the wilderness, our camp grounds, fish and the Big Prairie Ranger station that had been there for over a hundred years.

Hope y’all enjoy the pics, they don’t really do justice to the nature we rode through.
