Can Am or Ranger ???

Another vote for CanAm.
I had a Honda Pioneer and sold it in April and bought a CanAm Defender HD8 Max DPS.
No regrets whatsoever. There is a 2017 Ranger in my hunting group and it doesn't even begin to compare to the Defender plus it has spent plenty of time in the shop.

You can’t tell from this picture, but this is a pretty dam steep climb. With my HD10 I’ve drug a tandem axle 14 ft trailer with a 800+ lb heavy built 6x6 blind, a 400lb base made out of 2 7/8 heavy wall tubing, a couple yeti 65s loaded down with beer and water, and 600 lbs of feed. Figure the trailer was just shy of 3000 lbs with the blind and coolers, and then the feed in the bed of the Can Am. It climbed right up without thinking twice, which was pretty impressive IMO.

I just went thru the same thing, ended up with another ranger, basically because my wife liked the sand color and I already had all the add ons for the ranger. They’re both excellent machines and good luck finding one, they’re both pretty scarce.

My brother-in-law lives in Willow, AK and has a Can Am UTV and ATV as well as two Can Am snow machines and has never had a problem getting around. He has a snow plow/grader attachment also for the UTV and ATV. Can Am is very popular in AK.

I have them both and both are great mechines. But I would pick Can Am it's just a little better machine.

I've had both, it is ford vs. chevy thing. I personally like the ranger 1000xp over the can am defenders, just my opinion. Both are super nice and capable. Canam is known for some wiring issues, of course Polaris has some cheap stuff too. Both are somewhat hard to get new right now also if you are looking for crews. Either way you go, get power steering for sure.

HD8 VS HD10? Seems like top end speed is the major difference, which isn't important to me. Anyone have experience with both?

Impressed with my can am so far. You couldn't pay me to get a ranger after what ive seen my BIL deal with on his.

CanAm for sure. Have had both brands and the fit/finish, smoothness and overall quality is just better on the CanAm machines.

What issues is your BIL having? I've owned a Polaris ranger since 2005 and just recently had to replace the starter solenoid. Other than that, changed the oil, clean the carb, drive.

I hear all the time people having trouble with polaris. I havent seen it. I also have a polaris sportsman atv and my dad owns a 900xp ranger. All with no issues. What issues should we be ready for?

3 rear axles snapped so far and only one is when he was hooked up to his 21 ft boat. Other 2 were just driving. Then 2 sensors not sure which ones they were though. He sold his mule fxt and got the ranger and has been ****** ever since! Lol this is on a 2019 1000

We have never had the major issues with our Rangers that others have. This year got a CanAm when the 0% came around and it is a step above though. It’s just a little better machine and I don’t see it being debatable. It’s not a mind blowing difference but it would be my pick again over anything out. My experience is only limited to Defender, Ranger, and Mule Pro though

I will agree with bloodtrailer28. My uncle has a fairly new polaris ranger crew 1000. This machine is a garage queen for the most part but he does use it around the farm for normal stuff but nothing crazy.

Since his ownership he has been through 4 wiring harnesses for the shiftier. Still to this day after being a the dealerships for all 4 times it still doesn't work right. He has to turn the machine on/off every time he wants to switch gears. Also have buddies with rangers for duck hunting and they are always going through axles. My vote for CanAm

Almost 3000 flawless miles on my ranger. Drove a razor in cabo with 22,000km on it.

When I shop next time I'll look at all of them
