    Mulching with an electric mower

My mower crapped out and I’m looking at replacing it. I have approximately 10k sq ft of sod. I really need a riding mower, but it’s not in the budget and I don’t have a place to store it.

Considering a lithium powered electric mower. I know they can handle the square footage, but I do not want to bag. It’s already a 3 hr process start to finish edging, trimming and mowing with a mulching gas mower.

It becomes a 5 hr ordeal if I have to empty a bag every other pass and the electric mowers have a smaller cutting radius.

Am I nuts for considering cordless?

    Would that work?

Yes. You get maybe 80 minutes on a battery. I have 2 tiny back yards and think I can mow them 4 times per charge. That would be 5000 square foot per charge............

Are you bagging or mulching it?

I have the latest Ego with the 2 blade system and it has my half acre of bermuda looking like a golf course. I had the first generation, sold that to another TBHer in favor of a rideing mower but then decided to go back. My only complaint with the first gen was that it was not a great mulcher. Ego really addressed that with this model. I keep the blades kitchen knife sharp and am really pleased with the results.

Mowing in the extreme heat a couple of times I have had to stop to recharge the 7.5ah battery. I do have a separate battery I use for the line trimmer and blower.

Yea no doubt. OP must do a lot of standing in the shade drinking cold ones which I’m good with. 10,000 sq' is less than a quarter acre.

I have about the same amount of sod and I bet it doesn’t take me 3 hours a month to keep it mowed. What’s taking you so long?

Edge walks. Trim perimeters. Trim back alley. Mow. Move trampoline and play house to mow those areas. Sweep. Hose off back porch. I mow the front 2 different directions. It may not be a full 3 hours, and I don’t take breaks except to change heads and refuel/restring if needed, except on this really hot 100° days.

I have parts of my back that are varying heights/thickness and it requires me to change the deck height 3 times. The deck height levers are broken and requires a prybar and hammer.

I’ve been putting off getting a new mower for a couple of years

I bought his previous gen mower. I like it so much that I bought the cordless multi head trimmer system with a pole saw and edger attachments. Also bought the hand held blower.

I have at least twice as much as you do to mow, edge weed East and blow and usually get 2 sessions out so a 7.5 & 2.5 ah battery.

Ego is coming out with a riding mower next spring. It will be pricey but I’m watching.

Probably $3-4K would be my guess. Im sure it will be a helluva mower though.

Just finished doing the whole yard by myself.
The weed eater was surgical. Could get in tight spots and fly down fence lines.
The mower needs to be sharpened {brand new} and was just ok.
The blower is the strongest I have ever owned.

This was the 3rd cut on the first charging. Around 1500 square foot................
