    40' Shipping Container Question

I have a 56 HP John Deere with front end loader, and i am having my conex delivered on Friday to my deer lease. Will my tractor me able to move it around? I know i can't pick up the whole container but I may want to walk it into position, will my tractor do it?

I wouldn't think so. That thing is probably going to weigh over twice the weight of your tractor.

Man, I recall a 40' high cube is around 8500 pounds. My memory may be rusty, but they are heavy. Obviously a bit lighter if not HC. I don't think you will be able to lift it and do much with it if you could. Following for the folks who have tried.

Nope. Not moving it around with the bucket. I’ve got a 75 HP skid steer that isn’t capable of it. Closest you’ll get is jacking it up and placing pipe underneath for it to roll on. The drag it around.

They make little corner riggings for you to be able to lift them up with bottle jacks etc. Order or fab some up, then use a jack to lift the conex. Slide pipe underneath. Drag with tractor and chain. It’ll be slow, but it’s the best chance you have.

You're gonna want it unloaded right where it will stay permanently.

I think it will walk it into position just fine. You will be able to just about pick up one side and slide it around.

I moved my firework stand, 40' and lots of shelving with my GMC 2500. I used a farm jack to lift it up until I could slide a 10' long, 8" diameter pole I bought at McCoys. I did this for three poles. My truck easily moved the container and I was able to adjust which way it was facing pretty easy too. I suggest using two 16x16x4 cement blocks per corner and in the middle on both sides. I know your bucket can lift better than my farm jack

This. I moved a 40' container with a 68 hp Kubota. I finally had to use the 3pt hitch to raise it high enough to get pipe under it and roll it 10' at a time. And it was all that tractor could handle to lift the end with the hitch.

Thanks yall, I am going out there today to set the blocks going to try and have them drop it into place to keep from having to fight it. I am hoping i can just make that happen and be done with it. If not, let the work begin!

If they can't get to where you want it dropped, how far will you be dragging it?

Sorry, Not Related to the OP post. But, I am thinking of getting one to use as storage, but what does everybody that has one put under them so they don't sit on the ground. I am thing of using old RR ties?

Might be able to pick up one end with 3pt lift, MIGHT.

Not a chance with the FEL

im using concrete blocks but RR ties would work too.

You’d be surprised at what those jacks can do (assuming you are talking about a Hi-Lift style jack).

I buried my 76 Dodge Power Wagon to the frame rails at my in-laws pasture. He had a big hi-lift style jack and he rigged it to the truck with a big *** chain and pulled it out of the ruts using it like a come along.
