Hiring a local handyman for exterior painting

We are thinking about starting an exterior painting project. We have a local painter that has bid the job but I doubt he has insurance. Would it do any good to have him sign a waiver that says I am not liable if he were to get hurt?

Any you guy ever been sued in a situation like this?

    Thanks.

May not be the case but if you think he is an illegal doubt he would try to sue.

First thing I'd ask is if he has insurance. I wouldn't assume anyone did or didn't.

If, in the process of painting your place, he does damage to another property, are you willing to cover those costs? That is what insurance is good for.

If you want to use him, buy him a policy.

Even if using a paint company they likely don't carry workers comp for injuries, most are considered sub contractors of paint company. Company will usually have insurance against property damage.
