    Utility Easement

Adjoining property owner phoned this morning to request an easement to run electric lines across my property to his. Apparently the utility company has already inspected a route. He can access power from the front or the back of his property but it costs him more. I don't want another electric line running across my property and told him no. Can I prevent this or will the power company (CTEC) try to pursue the shortest route?

Your no answer is all you need. He will have to get it from the front or back of his place.

Nope. As to your neighbor he prolly knows your answer but to save money he needs to ask.

The power company can’t act on their own. I had to get an Anchor set off of a pole that would reached into a neighbors property. PEC would not even make plans until I had this in writing which was easy.

If you don’t want it then No is all he needs. Otherwise charge him something that makes not worth it and add a monthly fee to upkeep the easement.

          Say no
          Sell him the easement
Suggest he can if he goes underground
Sometimes have power running to the back of your property can be a benefit and increase value for further development.

My neighbor said no but I believe the power company had a blanket easement for his entire property. They could do it but don’t like too. I got an easement from the county to run it down the county road. It did cost me more and in the future if he needs anything I’ll return the favor.

No-- and they can't force you to give him an easement.

Our neighbors did the same, then came hat in hand wanting a tie in later
