10 years ago if you seen one it was a treat. Now if you dont see one daily you thought something serious has happened to them. Their population is coming on strong now and glad to see it.

i helped Colorado Division of Wildlife with the relocation project on moose in 1987. We released 12 moose in Larimer county. It was amazing watching those spindly legged animals run into the beaver pond thickets. The last 2 years I have had the joy of watching what had to be the offspring of those moose feeding in that same valley. They are visible just about every day. Cool animals and one great story of quality conservation efforts. Colorado is currently reporting an estimated herd of over 2800 animals.

I’ve been putting in for 10 years, I feel like if they see Texas on the name they pull they throw it right back in the hat and try again. I know that’s bs but I don’t think I’ll ever see a tag in my lifetime.
Last year while elk hunting in Colorado I had two bull moose walk right up on me. I was sitting on the ground and the smaller of the two bedded down 30 yards in front of me while the biggest one bedded down less than 20 yards to my left. At one point walking less than 10 yards from me while I'm sitting on my butt amongst some bushes. I watched him go to sleep as I prayed that they would leave. I didn't budge for nearly an hour hoping they would move on. Finally it started getting dark and I knew I needed to get down the mountain. I slipped my pack on as quite as I could but when I stood up he heard me. He jumped up, spun around and started huffing and blowing snot at me. I just kept my eyes on him and backed up as slow and non threatening as possible. It was a cool experience but scary at the same time.

Those moose are the basis for our herd just over the border in Wyoming. The Snowy herd is also doing well when some are not. I call in a few bulls every year while elk hunting. We see lots of them also.

Glad to hear they made it up there. That was the original plan. I grew up in Ft. Collins. DOW has lots of programs that let youth help with wildlife relocations at that time. There is no telling how many geese we trapped to trade with Kansas-for turkeys.

I had no idea you grew up in Ft C. I used to live up there off College & Thunderbird, behind a restaurant called Moot House.
