Need help on vacuum sealer purchase

Looking to buy a vacuum sealer soon so I can store larger venison cuts instead of having them processed. This will be my first vacuum sealer, so I have no idea what’s good or bad. What are y’all using?

I've gone through a few FoodSavers until I bought a Vacmaster. I think I have the 360 and have been very happy, but if price isn't a huge issue I'd go with one of their chamber sealers.

What’s the biggest piece of meat you can vacuum seal with it?

When I am processing I keep two Foodsavers going. One is about 15 years old and has done countless deer. When I am done with it it goes back on the shelf. I would like to have a chamber vac but am not willing to give up the room or $ for something I use infrequently.

Most will seal bags up to 11 inches wide; if you get the bags in rolls you can customize the size for whatever you wish to seal. I've done whole hog and deer shoulders with 11 inch bags with no problem, you just end up with a big long package.

The differences between most basic and advanced sealers seem to be based on features for handling the bags, like a roll holder, a cutter, etc. But the basic functionality of the sealing process will be the same regardless. You'd just need to decide if the extra features are worth extra $$$. I've owned several over the years, and most recently bought a basic one via Amazon for about $50 that works great.

I've done whole shoulders before. The biggest difference I've seen with the Foodsavers vs Vacmaster is the ability to do large quantities without cool down periods. When we were processing a lot, we constantly had to break so the Foodsaver could cool down or it wouldn't work.

Chamber sealers seal moist and wet items better than a vacuum sealer. If there is moisture in the meat on a vacuum sealer, you dont get as good of a seal.
