Is 4.1 base magnification too much

    For NE Texas?
I found an XQ50 monocular for sale.

IMO yes. I don’t even like that much base mag out here in far WTX for a rifle much less a scanner.

        Yes

I have an older ATN and the base mag makes finding anything a chore. I think it is 3 something?

Thermal with 1-6X would be plenty for me

          Thank you all.
I had a sightmark Wraith. 4X base. Field of view was narrow.
Have a Vortex HST 6-24, Too much magnification for 100 yds.

Recently bought a Pulsar RXQ30V. Base magnification is 1.6. When I'm scanning with it I wish it had more.
Been looking @ monoculars. Haven't decided on one yet

Last year I ran a Trail XP38 as a scanner, and an XP50LRF as my shooter. The 38 was 1.2 base mag, and the XP50LRF is 1.6. I preferred the 38 to scan with even i. The wide open fields we hunt out this way. It allowed me to cover more ground quickly and easily. If I was sitting still I could manage with more magnification, but the way we hunt less is more.
