“Greedy as a Pig”..... BeeBops first hunt!

I planned to take Lola to the new stand we set up yesterday evening to shoot a pig. They are there every morning and evening.. but I got caught in the hay field till 8:00pm so that didn’t happen. She’s been working on the feed route every morning and I figured she would want to sleep in, but ask anyway.... I really want to sleep. I understand, but I’m gonna ask your brother.

He was ready to go THEN. LOL I realized I’d never taken him. He’s 4 now and never been “hunting”. He run traps and shot em in traps but never hunted like I did with Lola. She was in dove fields a few weeks after birth

I get him up at 6, which is easy. He a super early morning person anyway.. and he woke up excited about “go shootin a stinky pig”. Feeder spins @ 7:00 and they are there by 7:02.. We park and I carry him through the tall wet grass. He would have been wet to his chin. I don’t open the gate to the woods, because it will make noise, and I know they are within 100yards at most.

I set BeeBop (Tucker) over the gate and I climb over. The stand is only 50ish away at a 45*, but I can see the feeder from my position....

It still somewhat “grey” in the woods but I’m positive I see a pig sleeping under the feeder. I motion him to stop and I look through the ziess... PIG! Laying like a rested dog broadside @ 50 yards. “Stay right here” I had to get to a tree to hide and shoot... but every step I take, those tiny boots crunched through the leaves.

I put the crosshairs high on shoulder and send the 6.5 grendel... dust cloud and GONE. How in the world did I miss? He don’t care, “can we get in the stand now?”... sure. Figured this will be a waste, but he don’t know any different and he’s having fun. He’s quiet as a church mouse... for about 2 minutes. Then I realized I had to take his boots off if there was any chance left. At 3 till 7:00... “well I don’t see any, I guess we can eat breakfast”. I laugh and said let’s wait for the feeder to spin first.. “ok Dad”

He’s sitting in my lap now and 7:00..... dinner bell. The last kernel ain’t hit dirt when we both see a pig running in! ( I’m honestly in disbelief). I get Bop back in his chair and muffs on and wait for a shot. The noise this kid is making has me convinced this hog is deaf. The boar looks exactly like the one that was sleeping under the feeder, but is eating corn like it will rot in 1 min.

I was going to let him watch a while before the shot, but with all his noise I took the first sight of the shoulder offered..... BOOM!!! ... and down

Lmao. Great story. Kids are the best. (As long as they’re someone elses)

He looks like he’d be an old pro by now.

Awesome as always Kyle. What bullets are you running in the grendel?

                            ... where was I.

When we got out to go to the photo shoot I rolled him to see the damage. This was 1st kill for the grendel and I’m not sure on any of the ammo yet.

... I’ll be dang. SAME PIG... hit both shots. He was greedy enough to come in after being shot 25 minutes earlier in the same place.

Tucker was excited to be part of the hunt and “wanted to get the meat”..... uhhh. I got him a strap and chicken fried it for his lunch. Honestly turned out the best of all I’ve cooked

                              As for ammo:

                              These where Hornady eld-x

WHICH to MY understanding are more of a target load. But to date are all that anyone can get to shoot accurately without handloads. I have federal fusions too, but haven’t shot any (hoping to have better results)

The top hole was bedded, lower broke both legs.
                              Neither exists
I recovered lower as I could see it bulging under skin

There was shredded tin foil everywhere and without weighing it I can tell it didn’t retain much as far as weight. It did the job, but I know there is better options
