    Used boat question

Found what I’ve been looking for, boat is in good shape and clear title. Question is, trailer only has a bill of sale. Is this an issue? Everything I’ve found was just a red flag is the boat doesn’t have a title. Can’t find anything on there being an issue with the trailer only having bill of sale

    Nope. Wouldn’t do it

Hard enough to get title with a title and bill of sale

Not an issue on the trailer. Boat YES an issue.

Does it have tags? Take your boat registration when you do the trailer, they will just need the tags number.

Shouldn’t be a problem just register the trailer as homemade in your name.

Look online but trailers over a certain weight rating (4K) are titled.

depends on the weight of the trailer. see link. many do not require a title.

If your manufactured trailer's gross weight exceeds 4,000 lbs., it must be titled. Submit the following documents to your county tax assessor-collector office:

              Evidence of ownership:
New trailer: Manufacturer Certificate of Origin*, or
Used trailer over 4,000 lbs. gross weight: Certificate of Title, or
Used trailer less than or equal to 4,000 lbs. gross weight: Bill of Sale + Registration Receipt
              A completed Form 130-U,

              Applicable fees

Buy it if you like it’s easy to get it registered . Now the boat on the other hand he’ll no run away .

Even a boat is not hard to get titled, just takes some forms and provenance + time. Two months minimum on a boat, but maybe more. Trailer is easy as others have said. Took me all of ten minutes with a bill of sale.

Make sure the motor has a title too.

                        Not all trailers are titled.

I boat my last boat out of North Carolina, they don’t title trailers there. Was no issue getting Texas tags with a bill of sale. That’s my only experience with this.

Have you done it in Texas? Everybody I have talked to that has tried it has been impossible to do, just curious.

I bought a boat out of Oklahoma in May, No problem getting the boat and motor transferred to Texas Title (Had to do it all by mail), but still can't get plates for the trailer as the courts are closed. But as long as it has a bill of sale and is under 4000 lbs your good to go.
