    Crystal Beach

I saw the Freeport thread and thought I’d ask the same. Me and the family are headed to Crystal Beach next week. Anyone have any insight as to where I can take the kids wade fishing? Something preferably other than a pier to fish off of. They don’t care what kind of fish but I’d like to get them on some reds or trout. Thanks in advance.

If coming from Ferry, take the very first left (North) and fish the area within the red. When the tide is moving strong, fish the outgoing side of the bridge. Lot of flounder here too. Also, bring some crabbing apparatuses.

I’ve never been crabbing. What are these apparatuses you speak of?

Lol, about 30' of paracord with a chicken neck/quarter tied to the end. Throw it out from the bank and let it sit a bit, then slowly pull it in. Have a net with a long handle ready and scoop that sum-beetch up. Kids will have a blast. There's a guy right around the corner that sells crabs if you want enough for a boil and don't catch enough

The more lines with bait hou have out, the more crabs you'll catch.

That's also a great wading spot for catching flounder in December and January.

Agree with sackett on the spot and the crabbing. Especially with kids.

..... and if you don’t want to get a big ouch while trying to pick up a blue crab, grab it by the flipper in the back. Either or both but I usually just grab one of them.

Decent info on setting up lines. You can use nylon string, monofilament, whatever.... you don’t need heavy line. Like in this video, you can use fish for bait but not gamefish. There have been several times that I have been fishing and did not bring “crab bait” (chicken, beef bones with a little meat attached, etc.... cheap is what you are looking for) but ended up catching a few crabs by using fish and mono

But..... do not net the crabs like the guy in the video. He is giving you a how not to net a crab demonstration and it is great. Do not swipe at the crab with your net out of the water..... unless you were just being extremely fair and want to give the crab a chance to get away. The guy near the end of the video loses a decent crab because he does not know how to use the net.

Have the net in the water and try to come from behind and under the crab. It isn’t like netting a fish.
