For example, a tree with a 5" diameter at 4.5' from the ground needs a 60" wide root ball. You can get away with slightly less on live oaks. This is the absolute worst time of year to move a tree though. I would spade them from November-December.
I was just out in the yard picking up limbs, mowing, etc. when I was thinking about it. I'm aware they have to be move when dormant.

at the base it's probably a 12-14" trunk. At 4.5' it has already branched so the main trunk would probably be 10-12" if I had to guess.

You'll get sticker shock when you get an estimate.

If you think it’s too close then removing it poses a high risk of damaging the roots of surrounding trees. May be better to either leave it or cut it down. Better to lose 1 than risk losing others due to the removal process, and even then there is no guarantee it will survive.

How big of a root ball to they need to take with a caliper that’s size?
          It’s gotta be 8’-10’ no?

I felt like that'd be the case.

Live oaks are worth a lot of money for a future sell.

Might be more cost effective to start with a new 6" caliper live oak spade planted tree. ~$600 outside of Houston up to about 40 miles out.

Drymala Trees. Far West outside of Houston. (That's a contractor price)
