    Carport Anchors in rock???

I did a search and didn't find anything......

For those of you with carports for your camper in the rocky Hill Country ground how did the installer anchor it?

Some of the companies I have called suggests rebar but seems like it would pull out too easy? They also mentioned driving in anchors used for asphalt. It has some barb looking things on it.......

Hard to describe, but my cousin basically built a concrete 'V' or 'U' trough, where all the legs of the carport are in the trough. Does that make any sense?

When they installed our carport in San Saba. The hammer drilled the hole & drove rebar in. Holding fine after 4 yrs.

I had two carports installed in the Rocksprings area. The company drilled 18” holes and drove rebar. Now that might work BUT I contacted Tim Satterfield (Tim’s Skidsteer) and he jackhammered holes in the corners and concreted TPosts and welded them to steel plates then to the Carports.

        Ain’t going no where.

You can rent a hammer big enough to knock those holes in rock pretty cheap. Just make the bottom a little wider than the top (bell hole), and concrete in some anchors of your choice to attach to the carport.

I'd use my Bosch rotary hammer and sink 1/2" all thread. Set in epoxy and toss a bearing plate and nut on it.

I recently put in 475' of fence between me and my neighbor. I rented a rotary hammer drill. Big sucker. used a 18" bit in 7/8". hooked it up to my generator and went to town. It drilled right through the rock and made putting in T post relatively easy.

OP, if you can do that, you can anchor away. Rebar would be good as it really grips as the soil settles around the ridges in the ground.

Thanks everyone. Ended up calling a place in Kerville that understands the local conditions, most of the other companies were in Georgia and didn’t understand. Simpco in Kerville uses rock anchors, 3 on each side, plus rebar at every post. Happy to support a local company and they will be installing in about 4 weeks or so. Gonna be nice to get the camper out of the sun and have a place to hang out outside even if the weather is bad.

Simpco was the Carport company I recently used. Great guys and on time. Did a great job. I just went a bit farther with Tim Satterfield
