Your first grandchild will get to tag you. I wanted to be 'grandpa' but when my granddaughter first tried to say that, it came out 'Bepop' and that's what they all call me now. All's good with grands.

My grandad was PawPaw when I was little, but somehow morphed to Pop later.

I have a buddy at church whose kids (2, 4 and 7 year olds) call their grandfather "Reggie." That is not his name, not a family name, and nobody knows where it came from. But they call him Reggie.

when my brothers had kids they asked my folks what they wanted to be called and they went with Gran and Grandpa. so my brothers and their wives just called them Gran and Grandpa to the babies and now that's the name that has stuck.Comment
