My boy use to sit all the time with the livestock with the engine running, but I don't let him do that any longer. I pay for gas.

The engine did smell a little hot last night when I popped the hood.
Any way you can record the sound and send me the noise? 254-2four7-seven805

Just a thought, check the motor mounts. You might have one that is a little soft and causing a slight grounding on the frame. I've seen them make some stupid noises that would drive us crazy in the shop.

        Vacuum leak?
The brake booster is right where you described

Where you able to duplicate the sound in park? If so let it idle with the hood popped open maybe it’s the compressor clutch? The compressor is on the lower passenger side.

Well if'n it was me and it happens to be the fan clutch going bad I would sure look at replacing it with an electric fan. It would save some pretty decent HP and improve fuel mileage by a noticeable amount. I have had fan clutches go bad. Some have seized up and some have lost ability to engage when the radiator temp went up. A seized fan clutch roars like crazy and one that don't engage will toast the engine cooling system and boil the radiator over. https://www.gmfullsize.com/threads/i...y-2001.229730/

I can't reproduce it in park. I will try to record the sound tonight.

With it as cold as it wound get, not driven in 24 hrs, I spun the fan blade. It went about 6 inches. I thought it would go a little more.

Not sure about the Ac tensioner. I know he needs a new ac belt. It is cracked.

I have never had to repair/replace a fan clutch. Honestly I don't even know where it is. Is there a way to check it to see if it is the problem or is it just better to replace it?
It’s not that the fan clutch is bad it’s working as designed. The “noise” is it going into lockup. It’s hot right now.

Think about it like a thermostat opening and closing. When it gets warm (hot) it will fully engage to pull more air thru radiator. As the temp cools some the clutch will disengage some to keep engine temp. within specs. This difference in fan speeds is most likely what you are hearing.

                      Sounds good to me.

GM, ASE master certified tech. Send me a video of noise. That year model was almost bullet proof.
