Winch UP Deer Feeders? Need info.

I'm trying to find winch up feeders. All the custom stuff I'm finding is about $500 a pop.

Bass Pro and Cabelas had a few but they were poly barrels. I need regular metal barrels.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have a friend here in town that is making some electric winch driven feeder tripods that he is going to sell I think for around $200, all you have to add is the feeder motor. This includes the tripod, winch and winch hand controls and barrel.

Homemade is best. Go big, or go home!

I agree homemade ones are the best. I threw one together for a little over $100 and I really like it. No more need for a ladder and you can raise the barrel up high enough where the livestock can't nudge it around.

Just don't go cheap on the cable, and replace it at the first sign of rust or deformation. That barrel can squash you like a bug if the cable breaks.

DIY is the way to go. Just don't skimp on the winch. Dutton-Lainson makes a great winch with a brake on it so you don't have to worry about it free-spooling on you. Use cable that is rated well above what you need.

Then post some pics when you're done!

                  Take care and God Bless,

I think DIY is the way you have to go for under your price range, that is if you have the know how, the materials and the equipment.

A friend of mine makes these, I have 4 of them now and this is all I will buy anymore... I think he sells them for 275-300 without the timer... He is located around Kingwood, Texas and only makes so many a year... If interested let me know and I can talk with him and see when he plans to build some more..

The best advice has been said. DO NOT go cheap on the winch and cable. I build different styles for different friends, but only use 1500lb braking winch and 2000 lb cable. Here is the winch I use. They work great.
