    Looking for Boykin Spaniel

Can anyone help me find a Boykin pup that isn't $2k or a 1.5 year wait? Surly there are some out there. Ive talked to several kennels in Texas but no luck seems like they stopped breeding them. I don't need one from a big name kennel would be happy to find one just from an individual that breed a couple good healthy good natured dogs.
    Thanks

You'll need to look outside Texas

I've gotten mine from Hunters Rest in Tennessee. Any pup worth getting will have a wait as most breeders take the breeding very seriously and the breed is gaining popularity.

There are some pretty strict registrations requirements for the BSS so be careful of backyard breeders.

As for price, I'd be ready to spend $1500+

Two of my buddies got Boykins last year from a breeder in Georgia, I believe. Two different litters. They look like good dogs so far. Tagged and I will post when I get then info.

Not sure how much time or effort you've put in with the Texas breeders so far but my experience was that it is a fairly small group that all know each other for the most part. I was given some advice that paid off big time for me, and that was to go to the breeders, see the dogs, and spend time with them. Let the breeder get to know you. You also get to see the dogs and look for what you want or don't want. There were some lines I definitely didn't want due to size, temperament, or insanely curly coats. There's a wide variety in boykins and some are fugly

Most of them weren't letting their dogs go to anyone that just randomly called, even if that person had the money in had. I visited a few of them, had to wait a little while (nowhere close to 1.5 years), and once I found the dogs & breeder that I liked, after a couple of visits found myself with 2nd pick from the next litter that hit the ground. The time and effort moved me up the list.

Texas Trace had the most dogs & pups available when I was looking. I didn't get mine from there, but they also had names of other individuals with litters on the ground that gave me a few other good leads.

$1500-$2k is pretty much the going rate from what I've seen. Talked to a guy on here once about one and he wanted $2200. I haven't seen any from a quality breeder cheaper than $1500 though.

Good luck in your search. They're fun little clowns.

Thanks for the replies. I contacted the guy in SC that El General recommended. He has a litter hopefully coming in the fall. Still looking for somewhere a lil closer if the right dog.
