    S. Padre Island vs N. Padre Island

Looking to take a mini vacation with the kids while my son is here for the summer next month for a few days. It looks like, from the quick glance that I’ve done, that it will be cheaper to stay on the south end. Anyone have any ideas on places to look at down there that you have rented in the past? Obviously a hotel would be cheapest, but my wife would prefer to rent a house or condo. We have stayed in Corpus in the past, but with the kids with us, I’m trying to be as close to the beach/water as possible, so that in case someone needs to go back to the house it isn’t too much of a hassle

As far as fishing goes, any suggestions for a ignorant saltwater “newbie” as for what I should take with me? I don’t have the equipment for shark fishing or anything like that, I just want to go somewhere and throw some artificials with the boys and see what happens the boys are 14 and this will be our first “real” saltwater fishing attempt, so don’t think you will insult me with basic tackle/lure suggestions I won’t take offense at any help

jst goto the beach early. Carolina rig with a circle or J hook and shrimp. I buy it at the grocery store or Walmart and peel them and throw in fist gut. Lots of whiting nad occasional red or black drum.

We stay at the Hilton Garden. Take a left when you cross the causeway and head all the way past the sea turtle rescue. Now, about a half mile down from there there are condos that can be rented. They don’t have a pool though cause they are privately owned I believe.
You can walk between them and throw artificials all you want. Or you can go all the way down to the south end and fish off the jetty by the causeway.

Thanks, Glen I sure wouldn’t mind a mess of whiting

Okay, I found the HG, as well as the LaQuinta there. May be viable options for staying since they’re pretty much on the beach. May make use of my Father’s Day gift (Igloo Trailmate) and fish the jetty as well

Skip those places and stay at the Wanna Wanna. Outdoor motel on the beach with a pool and beachfront tiki bar and grill.

If you want to rent a bayside condo stay close to the entertainment area and Louies. Do not miss the sunset over the bay. It's also only a few blocks from the beach. The sunset on Saturday followed by the fireworks is one of the best things ever.

We stay at the Hilton in South Padre as well. Nice pool, great view, claytons and the boardwalk out back. Lotsa fun.

We stay at the tiki condominiums quite often. They are older but reasonably priced, on the beach, and have a great pools.

Very nice pool at HG and the management does a great job of running off non paying freeloaders trying to use the pool. They have a lounge area outside the restaurant overlooking the beach. It’s perfect after a long day in the sun to sack out with an adult beverage, chill and wTch the sunset. We’re headed down the end of September.

X 2 on the Tiki... Reasonably priced and you get a full kitchen so not every meal has to be in a restaurant... They are not fancy but the ones I have stayed in have been very clean and functional. And two pools are available...

Clean and functional are excellent, fancy is definitely not needed
