Is hunting next to a high fence bad place

    Hello

I’m an acquiring a small place in menard co. It’s only 25 acres lots of cover and has two running windmills and a small pond.

Only problem or maybe not this where I need your help.

On the back of the property there’s a big ranch that has high fence. Does anyone has any experience in this situation? I know every place will be different and might be hard to know but what do you think?

Bolt cutters? Just kidding. Animals in a HF will ocassionally get out. Might want some pics or inside info on people that have been on this place before you.

Just one side is high-fenced? Get on google earth and scope out the surrounding properties/woods/creeks. Look for likely travel routes for the deer onto and out of your potential place.

30-30 yes only on the back side of the place I’m buying the high fence runs for at least a mile

I used to have a blind with a high fence directly behind it. Keeps the deer from coming in down wind for sure. I had good luck, but there was a low spot the deer traveled right there

Won't be any deer traveling from or to that direction but like someone else said a high fence can make a pinch point, but it doesn't sound like it will be on your place.

you could be cut out if other owners fence up or the large ranch annexes adjacent properties.

We have a corner of a high fence place that borders our property. Funnels the native deer into our property, especially during the rut.

It's hard to say. Deer usually stay a short distance away from high fences. During the rut can be an exception. How big are the properties next door to you? Any creeks or draws on your place?

                      Sounds like a good funnel.

I’ve seen quite a few deer run along a high fence on the outside of it. I think you’ll be alright.

How big are your neighbors on the other 3 sides? Could be the high fence was put up because of the hunting pressure on your side. If all your neighbors are small places, I would be wary of that. A lot of small places usually mean lots of pressure & low deer numbers. If not, shouldn't hurt you.

Without knowing more exact details, I would say it will be more negative than positive.

There is a high fence on my north property line. My boys still kill good bucks every year. Colorado County. 15 acres
