I'll run down how mine went and maybe it'll help dissuade anyone from risking it.

    1. I was pulled over on the way home from the lease few years back, and yes I was drunk, no contesting it. Probably about 9pm on a Saturday night.
    2. They hauled me in to the hub in G'town and I sat until the magistrate showed up on Monday morning and set bond. First offense of any kind for me, and I bonded out for 200$. 3. My BAC was .015 which is a Class A misdemeanor. In Wilco that means you're going to have to have a monitoring device in your vehicle until a judge says you don't need it anymore. You must have said device calibrated every month and it costs about $100 every time. You also pay the county $10 a month to monitor it.
    4. After 90 days your DL will be suspended. You'll either have to have someone drive you around, or have your lawyer appeal to the judge to let you apply for a provisional license so you can get to work and things like that. Costs around $1500.
    5. Your auto insurance is probably going to drop you. Any conpany that you can convince to cover you will not be cheap, and the county mandates you have to carry an additional SR-22 policy.
    6. You will have to go to lots of DWI classes, victim impact panels, do minimum 40 hours community service, and your court appearances.
    7. Don't forget to call your bondsman and check in every week.
    8. If its your first offense apply for the Diversion program. Its your best choice, and upon completion they will drop the charge and you'll avoid a conviction. It took me 8 weeks I think, to complete the program. You go a couple times every week in the evenings. If you take your chances in court and get convicted, it'll be $2000 a year for three years to keep your driver's license.

They hit you hard monitarily. In all mine cost me a little over $12K, but if you figure in time away from work ect. the cost is far higher than that figure. Dang sure learned my lesson, so everything they put you through does work to keep you from ever reoffending. Sharing this with ya'll so you can see it's not worth risking.

You got off easy without the Williamson County beat down... LOL

Sounds a lot like mine in Denton County.

Oh and you forgot to add, 40 hrs community service is 40 hrs, no 2 for 1 and can't pay a food bank to get extra hours.

Was the diversion program DWI/Drug court? I did my internship at that program and started their peer support group PACE. Great program that a lot of lawyers won’t tell you about. Get in that program if you are found guilty for some reason, it really cuts down on costs and charges

What dept? How they get his home address so quick?? Any 3 party witnesses?
Sleeping in drivers seat with engine running in a public place is all it takes.
He should be able to pr bond out the next morninrg or that same morning depending on what time he was dropped off at wilco jail. Magistrates work everyday in the morning usually.
Maybe has lots of criminal history/arrests so they assigned a higher $ bail??
He will be able to plead it to another charge and take a deferred ajudication/probation depending on his history. Or not sure if wilco has a 1st time offender diversion program.
Small shot of beating the charge. Depending on how much he sank himself, field sobriety tests, breath test, how and what he said answering questions. Usually officers are pretty good and ask lots of questions to seal their cases on DWIs as they are so common.
With covid though may be easier making plea deals.
Yes glad no one was hurt. Weve all most likely been tbere.
Maybe find an atty that used to work at the Wilco County Attorney (misd) or DAs (felinies)office. The County Attorney D Hobbs was an assist CA in that office for years and lots of his old coworkers are now defense attys up here.
Very political good ol boy network up here.
Same goes on the flip side for hiring any def atty that attagonizes them, look up Buddy Falcons twitter. Some attys are giving the CA and Sheriff hell (rightly so) for shenanigans up here. Its a huge mess. Could hold grudges

Wilco ain't as tough on crime as it use to be. The good ol boy system that you speak of has nothing to do with a DWI arrest. Yes, I support buddy Falcons page and hope to see Gleason as Sheriff. That will be the first time I vote for a Democrat.

Good ok boy system is alive and well, unless Wilco is the exception. Key word is “arrest”. [emoji6]

Don't confuse this with me not holding the drunk guy accountable. At the end of the day it is his responsibility.
Can't say what exactly happened, but the bartender in the wrong also, unless the guy walked in like that and the bartender refused to serve him and then let him leave. But now how did the cops know who they were looking for? That's a good question. Sounds like the bartender knew the guy and set him up. That or the bartender followed the guy outside and wrote his plate number down and called it in. Either way, sounds like the bar tender ain't going to be getting many tips, when word of that deal gets out.

What happens in the county for those that don't have the funds to play??
I had a friend who refused all the fines, classes, blow n go devices
And took 45 days in bandera county jail , did 30 and was released
With TDL intact and back to work
Saved himself $15000 and the PIA class

                        Did he lose his job?

It’s interesting that the OP has not checked back in since he started this thread and responded back with answers to the questions. Reckon he is his “friend”?

That wouldn’t fly in Grayson county. I didn’t realize some counties served ala carte justice. Lol.

I would imagine he ain't gonna give any details as it is probably still an active case.
