Supposed to look at a place half way between the 2 this week. 600 acres with water and electric and the LO is building a hunter cabin that should be finished by deer season. What do leases go for in that area? I'm used to hunting Hill Country and have no idea what the going rate is there. I've tried to do research and it looks like there will be lots of hogs and maybe not so many deer? Any info is appreciated.

That area should be good with deer, some of the country is really nice. I'm in same boat as we lost our lease after 45 years in the Hill Country, now found a place outside of Graham Tx, we know nothing about area other than it looks good for deer Habitat. We wont know anything untill we start pulling camera cards. I'm guessing $13 to $16 an acre would be about right. Good Luck

As long as it's not a huge 600 acre cattle pasture then you should be good. $10 an acre is cheap. I would give it a try. May take a few years to develop great deer or hell could be first year. I would lease in a heartbeat. Especially since we just bow hunt.

Our lease is south of Moran. This will be my 5th year (900 acres). When I got on, we were way down on deer numbers due to drought and didn't have a buck on the place over 2 years old. We stuck with it and it has gotten better each season.
We are now seeing mature deer regularly at feeders- 130 seems to be the top end for us- and much better numbers of does. Enough pigs to kill but they haven't been a big problem. We keep our feed pens well maintained with the cows, so the pigs seem to come and go.
Good area if you find the right spot- good luck!

Yea it will be hard to get use to not seeing the numbers but hopefully decent quality can be grown. We dont kill but a few deer a year as group anyway. We shall see. Protein and supplements are out, headed back it a few weeks to pull cards. We are at the end of Markley rd and Prideaux rd. Great looking country and plenty of water.
