    Interest on back child support

I know it’s probably a “ NO “, but is there anyway to dispute the amount of interest on back child support? Has anybody tried or did this?

    Principal amount owed $1400 approximately
    Interest owed $4400 approximately
    Total owed $5800

I’m trying to get this all paid off within the next week or so, but the interest amount is outrageous! Seems I’m getting screwed over again.

Call attorney generals office or go online to your account and see how how they got that number. Interest does seem off, but there may be more to the story.

Talk to ag about paying the arrears and the interest being stopped. You will still have to pay the interest but the blood letting will stop. I have that t-shirt. Good luck!

Correct statement here. As long as you get your arrears taken care of the interest will stop accumulating. I was paying 1600.00 a month for 3 kiddos for 8 years. It never went down because every time one kid dropped off she would take me back to court. Lol. My current wife’s ex owes 50K in total with arrears and interest.

Why the ¢÷|π: are they even charging interest...did the loan some $ in place of not getting a child support payment?

          .....and God Bless America.

Short answer is because they can. I agree, outrageous. Are they just calling it interest, or, like the IRS do they use the term "interest and penalties"?

My wife was married to one of the worst dead beat dads. He was behind about 75K without interest. He paid nothing for over a decade. Kids were past 18 when he move to California. The state made him pay all the back support but at "0"% interest. He got and interest free loan from us. I am the one known as dad. The kids know we did not make an issue about it while they were growing up. He had lied to them and let them down way too many times. It is a shame they had to put up with his crud, but those kids learned over the years and are great adults now.

Any time you deal with the AG, horse crap is guaranteed to ensue.

Because the parent who fails to pay child support is essentially taking out a loan to the parent who receives child support.

Think about it this way, lets say a mom is due $1000 a month, and doesn't get it. She then takes out a loan from the bank to cover that $1000 a month. Why should she be responsible for the interest on that loan when she reasonably should have expected $1000 form the other parent?

Now just take the bank out, and it's the same scenario, except directly from a parent.

Well after checking with my ex, she never received any payment when I was layed off or worked for a company that refused to withhold CS payments. If I can ever get ahold of someone in the CS office I will try and find out about the interest.

If the employer doesn’t withdraw child support they are in violation of a court order. Good luck with the AG and be prepared to be treated like a POS. I’ve never had to deal with them, but have friends who have.
