I went to a Weber sometime ago and picked up the smoker box like mentioned above, it works great! I use the weber genesis and its probably 7 or so years old now and still like new, clean it once a year and get to cooking. I made a brisket the other day on it and it was great. lit 1 burner (250) for about 2 hours a side then wrap and put it in the oven at 250 until done. With the smoke box it was just like my old stick burner. Its been a great grill.

Not what you're asking but honestly don't go gas. Get a pellet grill or kamado type grill. Cost more but last longer and makes better food imho. I have a Big Green Egg that is going on 5 years old and it still looks new on the outside, inside is blackend from use, and we use it 3 times a week. Best purchase I think I ever made.

Weber in that price range will certainly last longer. In the last 25-30 years I've had everything from $100 cheapo to a $1100 Holland Grill, and various gas grills in between. The $400 Weber was probably the best bang for the buck.

Adding on to OP's thread: Where is the best deal on weber gas grills? Is the Genesis worth the extra money over the Spirit? Going off feel in the store, it seems like it would be worth the extra money.

We grill on gas on week days for convenience and big green egg or a stick burner on weekends when we have more time.
