I think I am gonna do an Airbnb. Same price as hotels.

We've never tried that. Normally just stay at his apartment when the roommates aren't there; but when we've had to get a motel, LaQuinta has been pretty good.
Just a few blocks from my daughters college rent-a-shack!lol
We've stayed at the Tru by Hilton a few times and I think the Hilton Garden Inn. Lots of places up and down 62(just west of where your working)..Marsha Sharp Frwy from 19th on to the south to Milwaukee. Good eats around too. Most of em will only be a 15 minute or less drive.
Lucky most of the kids are at camp covid. Less chance of one them no driving num-nums running in to you! Pretty sure that's why they say wreck-em Tech! Safe travels!
Unfortunately most hotels in Lubbock are actually higher than in the metroplex. Oilfield and Tech keeps them booked most of time. Several are doing remodels while covid has traffic down. Airbnb is a good bet. Come by 4oregolf while you are here and ask for me (Keith). I will buy you a beer.

As far as I’m concerned, best hotel in Lubbock is the Overton. It’s not right at 34th and Indiana, but nothing is far away in Lubbock. And the traffic? It’s a thing of beauty, especially during summer.
Here are some more recommendations:
Best Breakfast: The Pancake House. 510 Avenue Q. They have a sign inside that says “Jesus Eats Here.” As my dad says, “if Jesus eats here, you know it’s got to be good!“
Best Restaurant: Las Brisas. Shows it’s a $$$$ restaurant but I didn’t think the price was all that bad (for fine dining).
Best Steak Restaurant for a Uniquely Texas Experience: Cagle’s. Way out on 4th Street. Double Nickel is also highly rated but I thought the experience was “meh.”
Interesting fact: good chain restaurants abound. If you go, expect to have to wait. I’ve been told by almost every manager of a chain restaurant that the Lubbock “store” is highest volume in the country. No kidding.
the Staybridge 19th and University is the closest to there the rates cant be correct on google right now though
it is a nice hotel
other than that there is a Hyatt Place across from the Overton on Mac Davis and Holiday Inn Express just north of there on Marsha Sharp that is newer....I hear the Courtyard across the freeway is not as nice
there is a Baymont further down 19th, but I am not sure how well the (several years back now) renovations were done
the La Quinta on Q is well kept, but the old style and the MC Elegante is an older Holiday Inn with some renovations.....the Double Tree on Q is completely newly renovated, but not sure if it is actually open yet....and they took FOREVER on the renovations and who knows about "opening hickups"
all of the properties on Marsha Sharp from 21st to 27th are newer and will be at or better than brand standards for type or property
