    Camper or no Camper- Help!

Need some help from those of you that have rv/campers.

We keep a boat in the Corpus area and live in San Antonio. Go fishing on average about 2.5 weekends per month and stay in $85/night hotels each time we go. Thinking about buying a mid-sized rv/camper that could be left in corpus for the summer months and come out ahead (would also use during the winter but not as much) I'm I thinking right ?
For those of you who have them --have you used them like you thought you would? or is it like an exercise bike that the new wears off in a few months and it just takes up space?

    Appreciate any thoughts

We use to use ours every month now id say we average 4-6 times a year, Dragging it to Galveston this weekend for a little corona getaway. It is super convenient to have when we need it to the point I couldn't imagine not having one.

Sounds like a deal to me. You’d probably spend less and be sleeping in your own bed. It makes it so much easier being able to leave clothes and belongings too feather than packing a suitcase every weekend.

Do you have a place to keep it? RV parks aren't cheap.

You just have to figure the cost of each option and see what is best. But besides the cost of a camper you have to be committed to the work involved too

My wife and I bought this one yesterday. No more carona hotels for us. Found good deal on Storge.

                Camper or no Camper- Help!

You’ll spend more than 80.00 a night for a spot to park it in an RV park.

Now this being said, my wife and I just bought our first camper last month and have 8 trips already booked with other friends all over the state. I say go for it if you enjoy it and want to stay in your own bed and travel. But it’s not a money saving option. Most RV parks are 60-100 a night and if your doing it monthly it’s 600+
From what I have seen so far. And you have to book almost 6 months in advance to even get a spot.

Plus somewhere to store it when not in use.

Just think of everything you have in your house, and double it. You’ll end up spending a couple thousand just to get everything you need so that you don’t have to drag everything back and forth.

We bought a Jayco 264BHOK - this was at Bluewater RV park in Galveston last weekend

                  Things to consider.
Storage when not being used. I'm lucky, I have friends with a space for me to leave it.
Campground fees. Can vary and may be harder to get in the fall and winter in Texas
Insurance Generally not bad, I pay about $450 a year for a class c
Upkeep and maintenance. This can get costly at times

We love ours, but we are retired and travel a lot, Florida, Wisconsin, Missouri and Upstate NY for the summer.
I don't know if we save anything, but it's nice not to have to unpack at a hotel, then decide where to go eat and have to load everything back in the truck the next day.
It's easier with a dog also.

I joined a deer lease last year and had to buy a camper to stay in. We thought like you that we may not use it much.

Quite the opposite. We have been camping our butts off since we bought it. My kids love going camping and so far it's been great. We've been to Big Bend, just pulled it 700 miles to Orange Beach Alabama and are taking it to Port Aransas next week. Lots of smaller trips here and there also. We are for sure getting our money's worth out of it. The only think I would change is upgrading to a motor home so the family could sleep well while I'm driving.

We use ours a lot. We aren't really saving money, but only because we didn't really go anywhere before we got the camper. We haven't pd more than $60 a night. And with passport America ($44 per year), if we can find parks that recognize it (there are quite a few), can stay for as little as $11 a night. It's nice to be able to leave a few changes of clothes in there, and sleep in your own bed at night. With all of that being said, before it ever leaves the driveway, it costs about $400 a month with small note and insurance, then tack on a couple weekends at $100-$150 per weekend, then add extra fuel it takes to pull it, it can be an expense.

Don't think I'll ever be without one though, we use it too much.

We love ours. We have a Zinger BH280 34ft bumper pull and have used the heck out of it, even here at home on the ranch as extra quarters. I'd recommend it, especially as much as you are going down there.

I had one, thought i would use it a lot. Turned out it almost never got used. Then it was just something to spend money on. I doubt i ever have another. If i am camping, i will just put a tent up or rent a cabin in a state park. Or i will just get a hotel, spend way less money overall, not have to drag a trailer around, not have to set up/tear down a camper, not have to mess with a poo tank, and generally just be all round happier and have more money in my pocket. But some people like them, so who knows

A camper is nice because you don't have to worry about bringing home bedbugs.

Unless of course they are in the camper when you buy it.

I've seen people buy them and not use them. We bought ours in 2018 and used it 8 weeks that year. Last year we went to Maine and back, and to Colorado and back 7 for 8 weeks of use. I am sitting in it right now and have used it for about 2 weeks this year so far. Planning on going to Montana after 4th of July Lord willing. Some of that time, like now, is business I have in Missouri. We don't do very many of the little weekend trips that some do. You may.

Overall we love it. We hate the Texas summers and get out every chance we can. If I had a super duty we would get a fifth wheel for the extra room and a washer/dryer.
