Do any of you guys use hot wire instead of cattle panels or barbed wire for feed pens? Tossing around the idea of using hot wire in Kansas instead of cattle panels. Just cows on the property. Would you think deer would jump inside pen using this??

Been doing this for years in Kansas. Many big bucks killed out of our pens. We use a single strand about thigh high. Sometimes we will go double wire if there is extra cow pressure. We make the pens triangle, square, or rectangle depending on what is needed. I’ve made them all sizes from only 40’ across to much bigger. Wire is cheap, make the pen whatever size you need to fit your situation.
The deer absolutely pay them no mind. Often I look up and deer are standing inside before I see them. Cows up there are used to hot wire but we always hang empty water bottles and flagging off ours to help the cows notice it. We’ve had very few break ins from cows. Your cows many vary. The farther you can keep you corn from the wire the better to help deter curious cows.
Been through lots of chargers over the years. This is our go-to https://www.amazon.com/Parmak-DF-SP-.../dp/B000BWZB74

I use a hot wire around my pen. The pen is goat wire then 3 strands around the outside for the coons. Been up 2 years and haven’t had a Coon in it since. Deer jump in as they always have. I got a video of a Hog getting shocked by it. Let me tell you he did not like it. Let me see if I can find it on my phone.

Yes I use solar and the horse tape, if not animals have hard time seeing it and tear it down. Running thru it. White hot wire tape stopped this think it's 2 inch. Just put one up about 2 weeks ago in pasture with buffalo. So far they have left it alone. Saw one touch it with it's nose after I turned it on, he just about flipped over backwards. Definitely should have been videoing!
