    Crossbow hunting?

Anyone currently or will be hunting with crossbow this season? I normally hunt
With my Bear compound but wanted to hunt different this year. Picked up a Killer Instinct Rush hunting package for $250. So far really love it.

I may or may not. I've had a more modern one for several years. And started with one back in 1979 before I ever took up a recurve in the early '80s. Just depends on what I'm feel-n like at the moment.

Man haz been killing animals and doing battle with them for many many centuries, before the wheelie bow ever came around.

And I just enjoy all forms of hunting as long as it's legal. It could be bullfrogs with a blowgun, and I'd be happy.

The fish are bite-n and there's hogs to be killed, gotta go!

I bow hunt during bow season and swap out between bow and crossbow during the season. Depends on what stand I can hunt that day and how the wind is blowing. Where I hunt it’s easy to get in on em up a tree with a good wind, other days I have to take a box blind with crossbow. I also sit in the stand with my son with a bow when he crossbow hunts. For the record I have killed big deer with both and enjoyed both hunts equally, so it’s all about what gets you in the stand and your blood pumping!

A bad shoulder requires me to use one now.

Thanks all. I recently had back surgery so wanted to give it a try but I will hunt with each. Hunting out at Granger Lake again this season, hope to draw deer this year.

After my bow exploded on me a few years back I went with the sniper 370. It’s been great for 3 seasons. Accurate, fast, the trigger is junk but you can get use to it. We were hitting same the same hole out to 60 yards. Will need a scope upgrade soon. I love that it’s lite.

Had shoulder problems at the beginning of the last year and didn't bow hunt all year. Looked into crossbows and wasn't able to cock them using a pull string. Looked at purchasing a crossbow with a crank but finally decided it wasn't worth money or the effort.

I have decided to let my grandson shoot any good bucks and I will shoot does with a rifle.
I'm probably older than most who use them.

I beem thinking the same thing with my back surgery I just had also. I know absolutely nothing about cross bows but how do you cock them with the strings and a bad back? Is that the only way to cock one? Like I said I know nothing about them but thought about buying a cheap one to hunt with this year.

They have a crossbow that uses compressed air to cock and uncock

You are correct, but they are also very heavy and pricey. I’m a disabled veteran with back and neck problems. I used a crank for my Killer Instinct x-bow and hated it even though it got the job done. I got lucky and a salesperson at Cabelas showed me how to cock a x-bow by essentially using a dead lift form. No more need for a crank and I’m able to cock x-bows with higher poundage. BTW, I’ve had very good luck with Killer Instinct x-bows. They have great customer service and make a good product.

                        Good luck,

                        Dave

It's funny how everyone has to give an excuse to use a crossbow, like its degrading yourself. I'm here to tell you it's fine, it's now your weapon of choice. Good for you!

                              LOL!
I bought my first crossbow because of a shoulder injury with the intent to go back to my compound when my shoulder was better.
It made killing animals so much easier I find myself using it more than my compound.
