    Explosives for fence hole?

I live on solid rock. I am trying to install some 3-4" posts for some gates around my property. If i need to install a t-post i drill a 1" hole 18" deep and am able to drive a post(with spade removed) approx 10" down. When it comes to the larger posts that will have a lot of stress in them i would like to throw concrete around them. Problem is you cant dig a hole where i live. An auger on anything will 100% not work and i cant drill a 4" hole without a well rig. So.......it would be cool if I could drill a hole 18" deep, drop a charge and instant fence post hole. My guess is nothing explosive would be for sale. I even tried drilling several holes as close to each other as I could and shop vacking out the dust. After an hour i said screw it.

Explosives won't enlarge the hole as you are thinking. It would fracture the rock in a planar fashion.

          Need an air drill.

If you are in cleaburne I’m sure it’s not different than what I have in Weatherford. A belltec will get through no problem. A fence guy should be able to drill your holes for less than renting equipment

I have no experience with it, but I would think an explosive would just leave an irregular shaped crater depending on how the rock breaks.

...and the ATF is going to laugh you when you say you need TNT to build a fence. Hire someone with an air auger.

Well darn. Think ill try to rent a jackhammer local this weekend and give it a whirl. Cheepist and least ammount of hassle (compared to coordinating a guy to come out plus i can rent one for 65$) let you know how it turns out

I know an old guy that used a torch and a breaker bar. He heated the rock, shattered with the breaker bar, rinse and repeat. I was amazed the limestone just fell apart after being heated and hit.

You may have to resort to a bar and post hole digger. I live on the same type of solid rock. You can dig it by hand but it will take a while. Growing up, my dad was the type that wanted a post hole all the way to china. I spent many days chipping rock from a post hole and digging the spoils out with a post hole digger. Enjoy lol

"It builds character" is what I used to hear growing up as my Dad wanted the same thing.
Moving from Nebraska to Canyon Lake area as a teenager I thought we moved to a different planet from all the freaking rock! It sure makes for one hellova solid post once you have chipped and chiseled out the hole and cemented in the post though.
