Stand placement, no scouting, two options:

You can put your bow stand at a stock tank that has tree cover or in a thick section of cover off a dry creek bed, no feeding in either location, which do you choose and why?

Stock tank. Critters gotta drink and I like watching the variety of animals come to get a drink

Creek bed. It might be a travel corridor. Never had much luck hunting water for deer.

I like the creek bed as a travel corridor.

Can you set it on the trail from the dry creek that leads to the stock tank?

My most productive stand i have is on a dry creek bed. Lots of travel on that creek
Stock tanks might produce many more mosquitoes than the average location

How much water is available in the area?

I put a game cam on a water trough on a new place we got on in February. This place is in Uvalde, and doesn't have any water tanks other than the cattle troughs. I was stupid excited to see what animals we were going to get on that camera because of the water. When I checked the camera I was shocked at the lack of activity. We got a little rain here and there, and I guess the deer in Uvalde just don't need water or something. I got pics of a bunch of hogs, a few deer, and cows. The feeder cams were much more productive. That being said, I'd be hunting the creek bed as a travel route.

Our place near Eden was the same way.I had a rifle blind near the only tank on the place.Never saw a deer come to it.I hunted it daylight to dark, several times.

Is the weather wet or dry? Can I get in or out of either with the wind blowing away from the direction they will likely come? Best cover? Corn pile?

It depends on where the property is located.

Thickest cover on the way to stock tank. I’ve found wind mostly irrelevant for hunting purposes where “scent” is concerned. I’ve killed animals where I just took a crap and I use my own urine for mock scrapes.

I do find that wind makes a difference in how the deer move.

Travel corridor on the creek is your best bet . During Deer season Deer seldom drink out of a Dug out stock tank unless it is a very dry hot season. Find where they cross that creek area and set up on it .
