Nonvenomous. Head looks like a water snake imo. Hard to tell from the pics but confident it’s nonvenomous. Shouldn’t have killed it.

I wasn’t the one who killed it

100% rat snake. I've caught two in my chicken coop the last two days. Drove them about a mile down the road and released them.

This one was found inside someone’s older farm house

From the looks of the pics it appears to be a dead snake.

I wonder if thread 100001 will be the one that make a difference

One morning last summer a half dozen crows had a 4 foot TX rat snake cornered against my backyard retaining wall. I like TX rat snakes, and I liked this one in particular for showing lots of heart and full of fight. Snake was coiled up and holding his own at first, striking out at one crow after another. Crows are smart, efficient killers, and tag teamed on the snake who was wearing down with each strike. I thought let’s see, TX rat snakes eat mice and rats, while TX crows make lots of noise, help themselves to my garden and peaches, and tear into my garbage bags on trash day. Got my shovel, scared off the crows and relocated my rat killer buddy to hide and recover in a row of holly bushes.

As for me interfering, I remember Josey Wales said “Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms”, and I know that goes for crows too. But like I said before, I like TX rat snakes.

I would trade 1 rat snake for a 1000 crows, should have sharpened up the wing shooting skills!
