    Troubleshooting bandsaw...

I know there are other forums where there would be better advice, but this is the only forum I am a member of. Plus, there are a lot of do it yourselfers here that know their way around a shop.

I bought a JWBS-14SFX bandsaw. I really like it. However, I have an issue with the 3/4" blade I purchased. When I get it on the wheel, apply the proper tension and then track it, the upper wheel is in such a position that it rubs against the blade guide.

I called Jet, and they said to send a picture. That was Monday and they just got back to me today and asked me what model it was... So this is going to take a while to resolve.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Not quite sure what you mean when you say the upper wheel rubs on the blade guide. I take it you have an understanding of how to set the upper and lower blade guides up when changing widths/gauge/style of blades?

My fault. I meant to say blade guards and not the blade guides. And yes I have an understanding of how to change them. Loosen tension, take old blade off, put new one on, change tension, track the blade. Problem is when I turn it on, the red guard is in the way of the wheel spinning.

Your tension look waaay low for a 3/4 blade. Those charts are a guess but you’re at the 1/2 mark. Make sure you tension it up enough.

I can't help but good luck! I have a big laguna and it took me a while to get it set right.

The blade should be riding with the gullet of the teeth about center line of the crown of the top wheel. yours looks like the blade is centered.

Looking at the pic you provided shows a lot of cant on the upper wheel. No way it should be that off center in the red guide. Have you checked to see if the wheels are in alignment and are coplanar?

I replaced the tires on my wheels, made a huge difference.
I think the old ones had need kept under tension too long and not used and the rubber had flat spots and I couldn't get it trued up until rubber was replace (with urathane).

Put some new Carter ultra blue urethane tires on the wheels. Make sure the wheels are not installed backwards. Align per the diagram posted above. After alignment set your blade guides.

Adjusting tension, then properly tracking as mentioned above helped but wasn't a complete fix. Ultimately, headphones were the solution. I am still having an issue with the upper wheel rubbing against the blade guard. I just made the adjustments enough to where it was tolerable, but it hasn't been a complete fix.

                          Thanks

Man that’s disappointing. Thanks so much for the update though.

                            Nicksberger,

They (JET) finally got back to me regarding this issue... They couldn't help me over the phone but asked me to send in pics. 2 months later they asked that I confirm my warranty info before helping. Within hours of me turning in that paperwork, they said it may be adjusted via the 4 black bolts on the back. I'm sure how and I haven't messed with it yet. If you get to it before me, let me know what you find out. Reference the 4 bolts surrounding the G1 knob.

There are a couple of great books on band saws and I'd suggest reading them start to finish. There are so many little things to know with these awesome and sometimes finicky tools.
I'd recommend titles by Lonnie Bird and Mark Dugins
