Marine Fuel Line PSA - "EPA" Fuel Lines SUCK!!!

I've spent over $400 and I don't know how many hours trying to get my 90 hp Yamaha outboard running right, only to find the culprit was a $50 fuel line/primer bulb kit from Academy! DO NOT USE THE EPA RATED, GREY FUEL LINE with the ethanol, "protective" inner liner! Apparently, this is a common issue. The clear, inner liner collapses and prohibits proper fuel flow.

Good to know. What's a better choice for primer and line as I'm about to replace mine.

Just use the auto fuel line, 1/4” line $2/ft at TSC

You are right about those kits! And the Attwood replacement fittings only seem to last a year too. Seals on the fittings start leaking. I don't like the EPA gas tanks of any kind either! Marine or conventional.

And for line, just do what KMB said.

Go with A OEM Bulb and regular, rubber fuel hose. I bought a Yamaha bulb/fuel line kit for mine. Even the "EPA" primer bulb has the crappy, liner that will collapse.

OEM parts and you don't have to worry about cheap part failure. I would never purchase anything mechanical from Academy

Older grey Mercury fuel line is the same way. Disintegrates and gunks up the engine with residue.

Had the same issues. Went to a Marine dealer and bought bulk USCG Type A-1 hose for below deck. Price/ft was reasonable & no issues since.

They even had a display of the Academy style hose (collapsed liner) compared to theirs.

Unfortunately you need to change your fuel line and bulb every year if you use ethanol
I do and also use a water separating filter as well

Never had this problem until ethanol. Use non ethanol fuel

I use non ethanol fuel as much as possible. Helps. I just wish someone around POC would get regular gasoline. All they have that I know of in the area is corn gas

Old Seadoo fuel line does the same. Turns into a green gunk and clogs the fuel filter.
Black automotive fuel line is the way to go.

BY FAR the best advice in this thread, IMOP, is avoid ethanol fuel at ALL costs.....it's sh#t.....a joke IMOP

I bought simple black automotive fuel line.... worked like a charm
