Depending on year model 5.5-7ish hours. Make sure they replace the oil puck pickup tube seal while the oil pan is off. known issue for causing air in the oil supply takes about 2 mins longer to put this on. The pickup tube can cause a Noticeable lifter tick at times. Usually upon start up. The rear main has a housing gasket as well. Make sure it is replaced at the same time while they are in there. I would make 100% sure it is indeed the rear main seal. A lot of the time it is just the pan gasket. I always replace the two seals on the exhaust pipe flange while the exhaust is out. Also, there is a dust boot on the front drive shaft and I see guys not putting the clamp back on. Not a horrible thing, but some engineer was paid a million $$ to say it needed it. I don't always agree with engineers but in some cases I do.. Hope this helps.
Do you have to pull the oil pan to replace a one piece seal? I have not been in a modern engine, so i honestly don't know. Does a 5.3 ls have a one piece seal?
It’s definitely the rear main. I’m a pretty good mechanic and an engineer. I can fix it but don’t really want to. Just fishing to see how far my “don’t want to” will go. It’s my son’s vehicle.
