I was talking to my neighbor about it. He said a group of farmers straightened the river channel with mule drawn drag boxes back in the early 1900s and built levies on both sides to prevent flooding their fields. He said that there was some old home places down near the river back then. He thinks it's an old hand made brick from a fireplace or a maple syrup fire pit.

Sounds like you need to find those old home places and search them with a metal detector.
