I have recently bought a Marlin 1895CB 45-70 and was originally wanting to go with an era correct 18” Malcolm scope. But I’m just not sure if I want to go with a more modern scope. Does anyone he experience with the Malcolm scopes or others like it if there are any. Which scope would you go with and why?

Most of the period correct style scopes like the Malcom have the adjustments in the mounts. And on rifles like the .45/70 you can zero at much longer distances than you can with modern scopes, if that matters to you. on the other hand, if you are just going to hunt with it, a low fixed power is sturdier and may have better optics. I like the 2.5 fixed power Leupold, I have several of them on various lever guns.

I think most lever actions are a whole lot more accurate than most folks give them credit for; irons USUALLY are harder to make good groups with.
The only lever action I currently have is the one in my avatar—a 90’s model 94 Wrangler in 44 mag. It has a Williams 5D that works very well, although it is ugly as sin. No doubt in my mind I would shoot it “better” if it had a scope though.
