    Port Mansfield help

We've got a trip to Port Mansfield for Memorial Day and was trying to find some family friendly fishing trips that are also not going past the jetties. My wife and daughter get seasick real easy so I have to look for things to do on the smooth water side of things. Was thinking about flounder gigging at night but I can't find any guides outside of the Corpus and Padre area. If anyone has leads or suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

I’ve caught a lot of trout in East cut on an incoming tide around 10:30 / 11:00 am on artificial. About half way to the jetties once you get past the open water. Might be worth trying just free shrimping.

Take a bag of corn with you. They also like Cheetos.

I just moved out of the area and I fished Port Mansfield a few times every month. I would definitely recommend reaching out to Captain Joe Prado (956) 357-1301. He’s a top notch guide and he’ll definitely put you on some fish in the bay.

Fish the harbor at night and you can catch some nice mangrove snapper. You’ll be surprised. Flounder are not that great south of the middle coast. They are there, but not in the numbers like the upper coast. Still, a night trip will be fun. Lots for the family to see.

Have you ever taken your kids crabbing? I did it as a little girl and it’s a blast. It’s done at night and we were often out all night long. The crab begin to run usually in April which is when the season used to begin. We’d have a big ole crab boil the next day and a good time was had by all.

I have not but that does sound like some easy fun to do with the kids. Thanks for the suggestion.
