What kind of wasp nest is this?

these nests started appearing last year and some are getting bigger. I never see anything flying or out. A few nests that were low i destroyed but they only have larvae in them. The mud is brick hard and doesn't seem to have holes in them.

I've always called those mud dauber but I'm sure they have a more scientific name.

Kill them now. They will build those in every hole they find. Clog engine holes and other parts that don’t need to be filled with mud.

Only good thing about them is that they put spiders into a coma, and stuff them into those mud huts to feed the larvae. Other than that, they’re a scourge.

Good to have them around......As long as they don't make
their nest, under the hood of your car...…….
Cause, one of their main food sources are Black Widows..

I knocked down a dauber nest in my shed and it had several spiders stored in it - two were black widows

Dirt dauber. If you have a boat they are notorious for clogging up your water flow intake and exhaust on your outboard motor. I have had to use wire to hollow out lines and dig out mud when my boat stopped spitting water. Just throwing it out there, in case you get lucky with them like I have!

Yes they can and will sting but they are not aggressive like a red wasp.

An old man that is a friend of mine got stung on the little finger, said it hurt worse than a red wasp and it made his little finger numb and tingly for the better part of a week

Yeah, i have never seen any aggression at all in the dirt daubers. The red wasps dont seem that aggressive to me. Now, them yellow jackets, I cannot count how many of them have stung me.

Back on subject, the dirt daubers will clog anything they can get into. Been more camping trailers heater and water heaters clogged up than i care to remember. Especially when its cold and the heater doesnt work. Cover any holes yourself to keep them out.
