Guess I learned something new today.

The berries are very tart...for real.

This...on both accounts. I sure miss me some mayhaw jelly. The place we get it from every year (Ham Orchards) didn’t carry it last year due to COVID. I sure hope they are back in business with it this year. 😩

I’m lucky, lady neighbor (Miss Betty) on our place in Alabama picks them up out of the swamp and makes dang good jelly, I do a bit of horse trading for enough to last the year. I even slip her a little cash now and again. I’m heading over there in Late May just in time for deer flies.

Its my favorite along with dewberry/blackberry.

I have never seen the fruit for sale, only the jelly.

If you order Mayhaw jelly off Amazon, look at the reviews, I ordered one that SUCKED !

I will try to find this place. Thanks.

View map and find directions to Ethridge Farm from Silsbee, Kountze and Beaumont Texas.

It’s that time of year. My grandfather has a friend with a few trees and we have had a good harvest of mayhaws.

This makes my mouth water! It’s been years since me and my grandpa would wade backwater sloughs off the Sabine to get Mayhaws

My great-grandmother Morris with her prize, Mayhaw jelly in Diboll TX. Not quite a hundred years ago but not far off. My parents were the last generation I know in our family to go pick them. They knew places up the 59 corridor. I know they used to go where a bunch of Esso wells were. They aren't grapes and like Garguy says, grow on trees in water.

We went back to where we went last week and some trees had a few left. Seemed to be a little bigger and better quality this time. Took the two of us a long time, mosquitoes were worse and seemed to love OFF, and we ended up with three gallons of berries. She made 29 half pint jars today.
That’s allot of work on your counter but will be some good eating.

Boy I love me some good Mayhaw jelly. I try to buy enough to last all year from some lady in between Jacksonville and Alto. Rarely do I find any in a store that I like.
