    ? For the Older Runners

I know there are a lot of guys who run on a regular basis. I run 1.6 miles each workday morning or 5 days per week. It’s around our neighborhood & one side has a uphill gradient which is where I get more leg burn & cardio work. The opposite side is a slight downhill gradient so I guess it averages out. I’m 46 and doing this in 13 minutes. Is that a decent rate for us old folks
I will say when I started running & up’d my cardio I cut more weight. Hovering around 170 lbs at 5/10-5/11. I peaked at 212 two years ago. Now I have more energy & feel better. I’m dieting better too

I’m not that old but got told I can’t run for fun anymore due to a blood flow problem in my femur. So until that gets sorted out I’m stuck with low impact crap.

Comparison is the theft of joy. Just keep running if you enjoy it and don't worry about your time. I am about the same age. I use a Garmin to keep track of my shoe mileage and use a foam roller and lacrosse ball when I get sore. Today I did uphill wind sprints X 6.

Now I’m no mathlete but that’s hair over 8/mile average which is fairly respectable for any age group

If you want to do it faster, find someone with a mean dog and have it chase you. Keep up the good work, bubba!

The Grouse couldn't have sad it any better..Throw away the stop watch and just run for the enjoyment man. You're running a very respectable pace for any age group! I'm 55 and have run 30 full marathons over the past twenty years all across the USA. I used to be "ticked" at myself If I didn't clock a sub-4hr race. My family and friends finally made me realize that "you've just run a 26.2 mile race pain free and not a fraction of the population can do that let only 30 of them". lol. I have gotten back to running for the pure enjoyment of it and the challenge of the marathon. My advice to you? Just keep doing what you're doing man. Good Luck!

That’s awesome. I guess I don’t won’t to seem like I’m not doing a worthwhile workout & like to challenge & stretch myself a little. Set a goal in other words to know I’m getting better at it. I used to not like to run at all

That’s quick for any age. The average mile time is slower than that. Especially if there is a hill involved

                          What he said.

                          And 46....old.....HA!

Keep in mind that your breathing should be such that you could hold a conversation during your daily training runs.

Getting the HR up is what intervals and speed work is for.

Ok. What’s crazy is my dad (aka Forrest Gump) competed in 5ks in his 60s winning first place most of the time running 24-25 minute range. I couldn’t keep up with that at my age

Not with your current running schedule but I bet you could if you seriously trained for it.
