    Converting 8mm to Digital?

I have a box full of 8mm videos I'd like to convert over to digital on my computer. I ordered an adapter to hook my old camcorder to my computer, but what software would I need to make this happen? Any tips, tricks, suggestions?

    Thanks

You would be better off just sending it here

Simplest and easiest way to convert your recorded media to digital. Legacybox is the world's largest digitizer of home movies, photos & film.

Is there a reason I'd be better off? I looked at there website & I'd be looking at over $2k for them to do it. There's bound to be a way to DIY for much cheaper.

Wouldn’t your stuff be VHS and your dad’s the 8mm?

I too would like to take dad’s 8mm stuff and convert it.

I have a hi8 camcorder that we used when the kids were little. I ended up hooking the camcorder up to the tv and playing them, while recording what was played on the tv on a dvd. It was slow becuase you basically had to watch them but it worked. Of course, once in a dvd they could be saved on a computer or flash drive etc.

I have a pile of Hi8 cassettes also, that have all of my hunts for about 15-20 years on them. no longer have the camera, and would love to get them digitalized.

I did this recently with my Digital 8 tapes, my camcorder and a firewire card. I think windows had a toolinstalled that allowed me to capture some of it. Have you checked to see if you already have something?

I had to order an adapter to connect the recorder to my laptop, but am not sure if there's a pre-installed program. I guess once I get the adapter I'll see if anything pops up when I connect it.

I recently had this conversion done with old family videos. I used a place in Tyler to do the conversion. It is not expensive and many photography places do it.

You can get them converted to dvd or downloaded to a thumb drive.

I believe he is talking about 8mm tape, not the old movie film. The film you almost have to send off in order to have it copied to digital. The frame rate for film is a lot different from that of tape.

                        Hope this might help you.

What is the place in Tyler? Have you used them?

I did it this way also. Converted old VHS and 8's with a $50 VHS player/DVD recorder. If you still have the camcorder that is.
