Mule pro vs Can Am defender HD8

Thinking about jumping over to can am after hearing such good things about them. We currently have 2 2016 mule pro crew cabs and they have been absolutely flawless. Has anyone gone from the Kawasaki to a can am and regretted it ? It will mainly just be used as a ranch / hunting buggy. Will never use the top speed or climb any mountains.

My needs are: -6 seats , 4wd, power steering, not to noisy, smooth riding in the pasture

    Any feedback would be appreciated

Can Am here from a Ranger. No regrets. Quiet and good ride. I have 3 years and over 500 hours on mine with no problems. Battery getting weak but my fault because I left the key on a time are two. It is a HD10.

Exactly! Why are you looking if you have 2 pros?

Thinking about doing the same thing. Mule pro is getting up there on the hours and was getting ready to buy a new one. Then can am came out with the zero percent...sure is tempting.

Love my fxt just wondering how the can am would hold up to it.

I have both a mule pro and a defender hd10 and they’re two completely different machines and both have their place. The biggest difference to me is the mule rides better and the can am being the Hd10 has more power. Neither one have had any mechanical issues but I do have a ranger sitting in my barn right now with a locked up motor.

Which one handles really rough and really muddy terrain better?

...and will go up a pretty steep red dirt hill?

I was literally just researching for my first sxs vehicle. Getting too old and fat to walk up hills, and don't want to get stuck in river bottom. I was just looking at the Mule website when i came back to find this. Timely.

Following. I’m planning to buy a side by side this summer and am intrigued by the Can-Am. I was set to buy a Kawasaki, but am interested to see what others think.

I haven’t ran them side by side, but I’ve ran my HD10 and then drove an HD8 an hour later or so. The HD8 seemed to be a little louder due to having to give a bit more throttle. Just something to consider.

On rough, Which ever one you put after market shocks on. In stock under 20mph the mule, over I feel the Canam catches up.

Mud is tires and then gearing. I feel mule is geared a little lower, but has worse stock tire offering

They are just different machines, especially in the crew comparison, you can’t really compare a Long beg trucks ride and 4x4 performance to a significantly shorter wheel base.

IMO first thing both models need are elka shocks and tires

I hunt brady mountains and Trans pecos (mule deer), I haven’t found anything I can’t go up with my mule pro, I fell same way about can am regular cab also, crew can am you just have to be careful with high centering it because of the length. With that said, I don’t have stock tires and I have it gear lowered b/c of 30” tires

Biggest difference in the two is engine breaking, mule you have to keep a little gas to keep belt/clutch engaged I feel like.

The mule is a good machine, no doubt.

I chose Can Am because the backseat is nicer ( I use mine for work showing clients ranch property) and I like the full size bed. The mule bed in the crew cab leaves a lot to be desired size wise. It’s also pretty low to the ground.

I got the HD 8. I have not found anything it will not go over or thru. I took it up a hill I don’t think I could have walked up.

I would 100% buy another can am if I had to do it all over again

I went with the HD10 Max XT and have not regretted it one bit. Click image for larger version
