    Scope upgrade?

So I have a vortex pst 6-24 scope on my Alamo .260. Would like to get into a leupold vx5 or vx6. I have a guy interested in my existing scope but I’m basically gonna be spending anywhere from $700-$1300 after the sale to get what I want. I’d like to get the cds and I just prefer the leupold glass. In y’all’s opinion is it worth it? I thought I was gonna shoot more at long range which I’ve only done a few times.

I personally can’t see the difference between the 5 and the 6. I sold my 6 and bought another 5 after I got my first 5. Optics planet has the 3-15 VX-5 right now for $949. I’m glad I got mine before they got popular. I think I paid $750 for my last one.

What magnification range are you looking for? Lockedloaded.com had some of the 3-15s in the $750 range not long ago. Probably worth a look there. They’ve had some really good prices when I’ve looked.

Thanks for the replies. I'd like something in the 3-15 or 4-20 range. I really don't dislike the Vortex but I'd like a little more of a hunting scope but still have ability to dial. Do you think the Leopold will be enough of an upgrade to justify the extra $?

I have several Leupolds, actually upgraded all my hunting rigs to Leupold VXIII and 5’s in the last couple of years. For the price, it’s hard to beat Leupold quality. With that said, on my most recent APR in 6.5 PRC, I got a smoking deal on a Zeiss Conquest HD5...wow...incredible glass. I got it for about the same price as a Leupy 5.

I've picked up a couple of used 3-18x44 vx6's & been tickled with them.

I have a VX5HD 3-15x44 with CDS on my 300 Win Mag. When Mary shot her axis at 406 yards I just turned the dial to 400 and he was DRT. For hunting I really like the CDS. It works.

Look at the new Trijicons. They introduced a whole slew of new products at SHOT. I am trying to replace all of my optics with Trijicon. Rugged and bright.

Check out the Z5 line from Swarovski too. Same price range and better glass, can get the BT and order a custom turret. Only downside is it’s a 1” tube.

Main difference on a 5 to 6 is the locking windage and the supplied flip covers ($100 value). I have two 6’s at the moment, but bought them either on clearance or blemished. Either one would be good and like the glass over vortex.
