My son was depending on his tax return to purchase a vehicle. The IRS has had his return since mid January. After about a month I called them and they said he was chosen for a random investigation and it could take up to 60 days. Now if you try to call them it is just a recording that says they aren't accepting calls. If I go to the "Where's my refund" app it just says "still processing". What the heck is going on? They are too busy sending out stimulus checks to actually send out the money they owe people?

Oh man... The IRS is the worst to work with. 2 years ago I accidentally put my former addresses with my current zip code. I filled around the first of February. I kept getting letters that said I needed to call a number for more information. I would call, and they would say due to policy they couldn't speak to me about my problem, and I was only told that I would be notified by mail on what I needed to do. How could they do that though with the wrong address? Fast forward many phone calls later to July, and I finally realized what the issue was. Within a few months I had my return. Pain in the @$$ and NO ONE from the IRS could help me. Half of them were a few french fries away from a happy meal...

just sound like he's getting reviewed. They randomly select a lot of folks and purposely select others. I've learned to never count on our good old IRS for anything and try to adjust my taxes so I minimize what I get back. He may want to look at adjusting his holdings for next year so he doesn't let them use his money for a year. Best of luck and hope he hears back from them real soon.
